Description

Vitamin B6 is used in the treatment and prevention of pyridoxine deficiency conditions. Pyridoxine is known to play a role in neurotransmission and its potential application in conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Down’s syndrome and autism are under investigation. Within central nervous system, the use of pyridoxin is common in treatment of pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy. In combination with other B vitamins, it has been shown in several clinical studies to potentiate the analgesic effect of NSIDs in patients with pain of different origins, including neuropathic pain. In combination with doxylamine, pyridoxin is used in management of nausea and vomiting in early stages of pregnancy. Pyridoxin is also used in prophylaxis of isoniazid induced peripheral neuritis and in treatment of acute isoniazid toxicity. In combination with other B vitamins pyridoxin is used in combined treatment of peripheric neuropathies.
